Why Canine Physical Therapy Is Important
Dogs who have experienced physical problems and trauma need specialized help for a healthy recovery. Learn why canine physical therapy is important.

The body is a complex machine that requires unique care, and that is especially true for canines. Sometimes, medical situations such as accidents, birth problems, or even just aging can put strain on a body, making specialized intervention necessary for dogs.

Canines can greatly benefit from activities that target certain areas of the body to minimize and eradicate medical problems. Canine physical therapy is important because it can improve the quality of life of a dog as well as its owners—read on to learn how.

Reduce Pain

There are various problems that physical therapy can remedy, especially when a dog is experiencing constant pain. Once a veterinarian identifies the source of pain in the canine’s body, they can determine which exercises will reduce pain and progressively eradicate it. Pain comes from nerve endings responding to a form of trauma, and some movements and processes can effectively minimize the pain.

Improve Mobility

Pain and bodily problems come with decreased mobility, which could deteriorate a canine’s body and mental well-being without targeted intervention. Suppose pain and a lack of mobility come from an accident. In that case, it is essential to seek veterinary surgery to fix a problem before it expands to other areas of the body.

After surgery, physical therapy is essential to gain mobility slowly and keep muscles or damaged areas active. Specialized facilities have tools and equipment to make transitioning from surgery to normal life easier and less stressful for the mind and body.

Increase Strength

One benefit of canine physical therapy is that it will increase strength, preventing further damage and decreasing recovery time. Stronger muscles lead to better bodily processes and functions, as a strong body will handle future ailments better.

Achieve a Better Quality of Life

For a dog, achieving an excellent quality of life also benefits its owners. Physical therapy will increase the life expectancy of a dog while reducing future problems and expenses. Once your dog’s veterinarian team addresses the source of the pain, you and your dog can enjoy life together and stress less.

Physical therapy can treat a variety of issues, particularly when a dog is in persistent pain. According to PetCareRx, a veterinarian can decide which activities will lessen and eventually eliminate discomfort after determining the cause of it in the canine's body. Nerve endings respond to trauma in the form of pain, which can be effectively reduced by certain actions and procedures.
